Fuss: A Smithfield man was booked for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business Tuesday after he allegedly refused to calm things down by going to his garage so his wife could fall asleep. Arnold W. Trouten III, 33, 288 High St., and his wife had called the sheriff’s department stating they were intoxicated and in a domestic dispute, deputies said. Trouten said they were arguing about life problems when his wife slapped him. She said he hit her cheek, and deputies said she did have a red mark on her face. Both admitted drinking, though deputies said Trouten appeared “highly intoxicated.” Neither wanted to pursue charges, so they tried to convince Trouten to “hang out in his garage like he (said) he was doing before the argument.” They said they repeatedly suggested he let his wife fall asleep before going back inside, but he “raised his voice and refused to separate from (her)” and continued to be uncooperative and act in a disorderly fashion, behaving belligerently at times. When they finally took him into custody he resisted, in the process breaking one deputy’s glasses and tearing another’s uniform.

Deputies allegedly spotted Hickman’s vehicle on state Route 43 in Island Creek Township going left of center several times, speeding and braking suddenly, and said when they stopped him they discovered an AR platform rifle sitting on his passenger front seat and floor board ready to fire. They claimed Hickman smelled of alcohol, his speech was thick and occasionally slurred and his eyes bloodshot and glassy, and when they asked him if he had any more weapons in the vehicle he told them there were “plenty” more. They said a search yielded a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 and a Walther P22 found in the driver’s door; a Taurus .38 Special in the glove box; and a Savage 93R17, loaded with a round chambered, in the trunk, in addition to the loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 15 they’d originally spotted next to him on the passenger seat.
